Botox and Restylane

We offer both Botox and Restylane for cosmetic and therapeutic use in our Chicago Ridge clinic.

What is Botox?

Botox cosmetic treatment is an FDA-approved injectable neurotoxin called “botulinum toxin type A.” Injection of Botox helps to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause the wrinkles, and to help smooth out the skin enough to reduce the wrinkle over time. Often Botox treatment can last up to three months depending on the person and how quickly they metabolize it.

Botox has been used for decades as a safe and effective cosmetic treatment for wrinkles as well as muscle and skin issues.

Cosmetic Uses

Botox is used to reduce the appearance of:

  • Forehead/worry lines
  • Wrinkles between the eyebrows (known as “11’s” or Glabella lines)
  • Nasolabial folds (“smile lines”) and frown lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Lines around the mouth (“smoker’s lines”)
  • A “gummy smile”

Cosmetic Botox treatment can also help with contouring of the face:

  • Lip flip can create a more plump lip
  • The non-invasive “eyebrow spa”
  • To slim the jawline by relaxing the masseter muscles

Botox is also used for underarm sweating.

Therapeutic Uses

Botox is FDA-approved for therapeutic use. The variety of available medical uses makes it a popular treatment method for the following:

  • TMJ disorder or pain in the jaw joint when chewing
  • Hyperhidrosis (extreme sweating)
  • Muscle contractions in patients with cerebral palsy or stroke
  • Chronic migraines that are not reduced with oral medicatio

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a line of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers that offers facial rejuvenation, volume correction, and enhancement of the lips, chin, and cheeks. Restylane formulations rely on the active ingredient of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body, to stimulate new collagen production in the body. Through this process, improved skin texture and volume is achieved, which in turn improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the surface of the skin with lasting results for up to a full year in some cases.

Restylane offers a variety of different hyaluronic acid filler formulations that are tailored to treat various needs. At Star-Care we offer the following Restylane® products:

Do not use if you have severe allergies with a history of severe reactions (anaphylaxis), are allergic to lidocaine or gram-positive bacterial proteins used to make hyaluronic acid, prone to bleeding, or have a bleeding disorder. The safety of use while pregnant or breastfeeding has not been studied. Tell your doctor if you have a history of scarring or pigmentation disorders as these side effects can occur with hyaluronic acid fillers. Tell your doctor if you are planning other cosmetic treatments (i.e., lasers and chemical peels) as there is a possible risk of inflammation at the injection site.

Tell your doctor if you’re taking medications that lower your body’s immune response or affect bleeding, such as aspirin or warfarin, as these medications may increase the risk of bruising or bleeding at the gel injection site. Using these products on gel injection sites with skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infections should be postponed until healing is complete.

The most common side effects are swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache, tenderness, lump formation, itching at the injection site, and impaired hand function. Serious but rare side effects include delayed onset infections, recurrence of herpetic eruptions, and superficial necrosis at the injection site. The risk of unintentional injection into a blood vessel is small but can occur and could result in serious complications, which may be permanent including, vision abnormalities, blindness, stroke, temporary scabs, or permanent scarring of the skin. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection. To report a side effect with any Restylane® product, please call Galderma Laboratories, L.P at 1-855-425-8722.
